ALL ABOUT HOOPING
Hula Hooping has been popular since the times of the ancient Greeks and Egyptians. It was used for both exercise and fun back then; today we still use Hooping for the same purpose. But what makes this practice so impactful? Why try Hula Hooping?
LESSON 1: Let’s Get Physical!
You can burn up to 450 calories per hour in a Hooping class. WHAT?! That‘s comparable to any High Interval circuit training class or an hour of motion on an elliptical or a treadmill. In addition to burning calories, Hula Hooping is full of physical benefits.
It is recommended that most adults get 30 minutes of moderate cardio exercise at least 5 days a week. Hula Hooping can easily integrate with your Centrifuge training programs to keep your heart in tip top shape. In addition, Hooping burns visceral fat - the hardest fat to get rid of and also the worst for cardiovascular health - say goodbye to that stubborn belly!
Hooping activates and engages the core giving your abdominals, obliques, hips and lower back a full workout. The manageable yet challenging resistance tones and tightens leaving your midsection feeling lean and strong. In addition incorporating upper body (arms) and legs we will give you a full body workout without the physical strain of lifting weights.
Flexibility and Range of Motion
Engaging the spine and core muscles allows your body to release muscle tension thereby increasing flexibility. Increasing flexibility will also encourage better range of motion in your body helping to prevent strain, overuse, and injury.
LESSON 2: Let’s Get Connected!
In addition to Hula Hooping’s physical benefits, there are a myriad of mental and emotional impacts that this tiny plastic circle provides.
Hooping fights depression, anxiety, and stress by releasing endorphins. Endorphins are produced by our central nervous system and are the body’s natural solution to quell a multitude of ailments. Endorphin production increases during physical exercise leaving you with a feeling of general euphoria.
Fortifies Mental Concentration
Hooping increases mental concentration through an orchestrated dance of hand-eye coordination and motor skills. If you have ever tried to rub your stomach and pat your head at the same time then you know that coordinating two parts of your body to do different things simultaneously can be a challenge! Hooping will stimulate your body and mind to cooperate cohesively. This challenge will increase your mental concentration and ultimately push you to tap into ideas and concepts that once felt near impossible.
Lesson 3: Rhythm and Flow
Hula Hooping is a form of meditative state. Once we get our bodies warmed up and dancing we slowly release negative thoughts, doubt and worries. This release allows your body and mind to become connected. You think less about the action or task and more about the movement and it’s inherent rhythm or feeling. Combining this rhythm/feeling combination with physical movement allows you to connect with your emotions in a way that is described as a state of “Flow.”
Getting to a state of “Flow” builds self-confidence, joy, and a deeper connection with one’s psyche. This feeling most definitely makes an hour of cardio fly by without even feeling like you’ve worked out!
